Crafts are being rotated, our Bunny B's have been moved to the hallway and letter P's will come home with your child this week in their backpack. Their letter V craft they make this week will hang in the classroom for them to see as they are completed!
Additionally, during B week last week we made Bumblebees that say "Bee Mine" for Valentine's day decor and to also focus on letter B. The students got to Paint the plates for letter P during P week before turning them into Bees on B week.

Gray, Semicircle, Letter V, & Number 1 February 5th-9th
- CALENDAR-This week we will be focusing on the letter V, Semicircle, the number 1, and the color gray. Our friend Vernon Vulture helps us learn letter V's name & sound. This week, students will come home with a letter V written on their right hand with a coconut scented gray marker. This helps them know their right hand for flag salute and reinforces the letter they are learning. We also have been singing several letter V songs and a number 1 song that you can find below.
- PHONICS-This week along with the other phonics skills we continue to work on like rhyming, listening for beginning & ending sounds, blending onset & rimes we hear into whole words, and separating words we hear into onset & rime, we are learning the new nursery rhyme, "Polly Put the Kettle On".
- CIRCLE TIME-This week for our social skills activities we we will talk about the 12 Guiding Principles Word of the Week, "Trustworthiness". This week we are also continuing Rotations during circle time where students are split into three groups and do a letter review activity with Mrs. Schuler, a number writing and math activity with Mrs. McCoy, or a letter app on iPads. Students do one of the activities per day for 3 days so that every group gets to do each one. Number books will begin coming home this week. If you keep each book, your child will have individual books for numbers 1-10 to review their numbers through the summertime for Kindergarten!
- PRE-READING/WRITING-This week we will learn to build letter V with our wood pieces as well as write them on chalkboards. We will trace and color on our gray page this week, as well as trace the letter V and the number 1 in our handwriting books. We will also practice tracing our first names in all capital letters and soon will start writing our own names on our letter crafts. We will also decorate our letter V for Valentine's Day for our craft this week. This craft will work on our fine motor skills as we peel the backs off of stickers and put them on and our math skills as we identify hearts and count how many we have. A letter craft will continue to come home each week as we rotate them out of display here at school. These are great review for students as they learn their letters so if you want an easy way to keep them they could be 3-hole punched and put into a binder to make a letter craft book. Students will also color and bring home a Vernon Vulture book this week that is also great review for letter V. If you save their letter books they will have a whole alphabet book library for review over summer for Kindergarten!
- MATH-Each week we work on our cutting and building our fine motor skills by cutting out the shape of the week that is also our color of the week. This week students will cut out two gray semicircles. Math is imbedded daily into activities that we do. Our calendar time involves learning our colors, shapes, and counting and learning our written numerals. While playing during centers, teachers interact with students and encourage counting, sorting, and comparing sizes and shapes. Students also do a math activity and focus on the number of the week during their math rotation at circle time and do other various activities to build different math skills.
