Crafts are being rotated, our Octopus O's have been moved to the hallway. Letter O crafts will come home and the Quilt Q's they make this week will hang in the classroom for them to see as they are completed! We also have our room decorated for Christmas! The students worked hard the last couple of weeks cutting lines for paper chains and creating their ornaments that they were able to hang on our classroom tree. See last week's tab for pictures.
LETTER Q, RECTANGLE, GREEN, & NUMBER 4 November 27th-December 1st
- CALENDAR-This week we will be focusing on the color green, the letter Q, Rectangle, and the number 4. Our friend Queenie Quail helps us learn letter Q's name & sound. This week, students will come home with a letter Q written on their right hand with a green apple scented green marker. This helps them know their right hand for flag salute and reinforces the color and letter they are learning. We also have been singing several letter Q songs and a number 4 song that you can find below. Our shape poem for Reggie Rectangle can also be found below.
- PHONICS-This week along with the other phonics skills we continue to work on like rhyming, listening for beginning & ending sounds, blending onset & rimes we hear into whole words, and separating words we hear into onset & rime, we are learning the nursery rhyme, "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
- CIRCLE TIME-This week for our social skills activities we we will talk about the 12 Guiding Principles Word of the Week, "Responsibility", and also get to have a fun lesson with our school counselor, Mrs. Umphenour. This week we are also continuing Rotations during circle time where students are split into three groups and do a letter review activity with Mrs. Schuler, a number writing and math activity with Mrs. McCoy, or a letter app on iPads. Students do one of the activities per day for 3 days so that every group gets to do each one.
- PRE-READING/WRITING-This week we will learn to build letter Q with our wood pieces as well as write them on chalkboards. We will trace and color on our green page this week, as well as practice our cutting skills to cut out green rectangles. We will also make a letter Q craft into a Quilt. This craft will work on our fine motor skills as we glue fabric and math skills as we review colors and count the fabric patches on the quilt. A letter craft will continue to come home each week as we rotate them out of display here at school. These are great review for students as they learn their letters so if you want an easy way to keep them they could be 3-hole punched and put into a binder to make a letter craft book. Students will also color and bring home a Queenie Quail book this week that is also great review for letter Q. If you save their letter books they will have a whole alphabet book library for review over summer for Kindergarten!
- MATH-Math is imbedded daily into activities that we do. Our calendar time involves learning our colors and counting and learning our written numerals. While playing during centers, teachers interact with students and encourage counting, sorting, and comparing sizes and shapes. Students also do a math activity and focus on the number of the week during their math rotation at circle time and do other various activities to build different math skills.
Below is a playlist of letter Q songs. You should see 3 bars in the corner. If you click the bars it should show you a menu of all the songs.
Below is the number 4 song we have been singing this week.
