Crafts are being rotated, our Halloween H's have been moved to the hallway and letter T's will come home with your child this week in their backpack. Their letter I craft they make this week will hang in the classroom for them to see as they are completed!
Letter I & Gray October 23rd-27th
- CALENDAR-This week we have been focusing on the color gray and Letter I. Our friend Iggy Inchworm helps us learn letter I's name & sound. This week students will come home with a letter I written on their right hand with a coconut scented gray marker to help them know their right hand for flag salute and to reinforce the color and letter they are learning this week. Because many of the songs make letter I without the lines on top and bottom we have also talked about how in preschool we always write the letter I with a little line on the top and the bottom but that sometimes capital I likes to take off his hat and shoes and is just a big line down when we see him.
- PHONICS-This week along with the other phonics skills we continue to work on like rhyming, listening for beginning & ending sounds, blending syllables we hear into words, and separating words we hear into syllables, we are learning the nursery rhyme, "Little Bo Peep".
- CIRCLE TIME-This week for our social skills activities we we will talk about the 12 Guiding Principles Word of the Week, "Trustworthiness". During circle time we will also do some activities with "Mat Man" that will help us learn body awareness and eventually how to draw a person as well as do some review games to practice naming letters L, F, E, H, T, & I.
- PRE-READING/WRITING-This week we will learn to build letter I with our wood pieces. We will color on our gray page in our handwriting books as well as trace the letter I. We will also make a letter I craft into an igloo. This craft will work on our fine motor skills as we glue cotton balls to the page as well as math skills as we count how many cotton balls we put on. A letter craft will continue to come home each week as we rotate them out of display here at school. These are great review for students as they learn their letters so if you want an easy way to keep them they could be 3-hole punched and put into a binder to make a letter craft book. Students will also color and bring home an Iggy Inchworm book this week that is also great review for letter I. If you save their letter books they will have a whole alphabet book library for review over summer for Kindergarten!
- MATH-Math is imbedded daily into activities that we do. Our calendar time involves learning our colors and counting. While playing during centers, teachers interact with students and encourage counting, sorting, and comparing sizes and shapes.
Below is a playlist of letter I songs. You should see 3 bars in the corner. If you click the bars it should show you a menu of all the songs.
This week is also Red Ribbon Week! See the document below for more info and what each dress up day is for this week!
